So much has happened since the last update to this site. Moving into a new home, our new puppy and many other events have spiraled into a ghost town of a blog. Finally, I’ve got a new project going and can push out the ideas that have been building exponentially. My main dream is to write, but there have been roadblocks concerning my niche. Then, recently, a fairly obvious but overlooked idea smacked me over the head. Design crochet patterns and write a book about them. Crochet has always been my passion, and I’m excited to share my journey with you.

There is a sense of self-worth that comes from receiving the support of your peers. And thanks to the testing process and testers posting photos of their finished projects on social media, the first crochet gift bag I posted on Astraia Sky Designs Etsy Shop had a staggering 10 orders. This unique drawstring pouch, measuring approximately 5 x 6, is a testament to the fun and interesting textures that can be included in a crochet project. The Front and Back Post Crochet Gift Bag bag is just the beginning of our exciting journey, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

With only seven people testing the pattern, the response has been overwhelming. The crochet gift bag series in progress is set to have 12 original gift bag designs. Currently, seven patterns are either being tested or ready to be tested, with five more new designs needing conception. The first two patterns of the series are now live on Etsy, and the project is moving rapidly. I plan to expand the series to include other crochet items, such as scarves and hats, so stay tuned for more exciting updates.

However, even with a project’s success, the author’s impatience can sometimes get the better of them. Have you ever experienced a period of massive inspiration and what feels like a thousand great ideas and directions to go? I’d rather be overwhelmed with great ideas than suffer a creative block. When I feel overwhelmed, I step back, breathe, and remind myself of the joy crochet brings me. Breathing helps me stay focused and continue creating.

The second design hasn’t received the same response yet, maybe because there were only five testers. It was named the Clusters Posts and Berries Crochet Gift Bag and has a lot going on visually and texturally. The initial images are of a bag with variegated yarn, so I crocheted another one with a solid color yarn to let the details of the stitches shine through. I believe people will respond better to this new color.

The foreseeable future looks good regarding this writing project’s potential for success. The key might be taking things and handling a little piece at a time. That’s what’s working so far, anyway. * Create a design, crochet it, have others test it, publish, and repeat from *  each day to your day off.  Then, write a blog article.
